Kaiping Peng serves as a professor and doctoral supervisor in the Department of Psychological and Cognitive Sciences at Tsinghua University. He previously served as the Dean of the School of Social Sciences at Tsinghua University and taught at the Department of Psychology at the University of California, Berkeley, USA. Returning to China in 2008, he was appointed as a tenured professor at Tsinghua University, where he played a key role in re-establishing the Department of Psychology and served as its inaugural Dean. Additionally, he holds positions as the Director of the Institute of Global Industry at Tsinghua University, a member of the Academic Committee of Tsinghua University, and the Co-Chairman of the H+Lab at Tsinghua University. He is also a board member of the International Positive Psychology Association (IPPA) and the International Positive Education Network (IPEN) in China. Furthermore, he has served as the Executive Chairman of the International Conference on Positive Psychology in China since 2009.
His primary research interests encompass positive psychology, social psychology, and cultural psychology. Professor Peng boasts an extensive publication record, with over 450 academic journal articles and 14 books in both English and Chinese. He has received numerous academic awards and has been recognized as one of the most cited Chinese psychologists globally since 2015.
Professor Peng is not only dedicated to academic pursuits with fruitful achievements but is also actively engaged in frontline teaching, earning high praise from both online and offline students. His course "Introduction to Psychology" has become the most popular course in China's MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses) and was designated as a National High-quality Online Open Course in 2017. Moreover, his course "Positive Psychology" has been recognized as a National First-class Undergraduate Course. Professor Peng was honored with the first prize for "Excellent Works of Online Publicity and Ideological Education in National Colleges and Universities" from the Ministry of Education. In 2018, he was elected as the 16th "Good Teacher and Helpful Friend" at Tsinghua University and awarded the "Tsinghua New Century Teaching Achievement Award" in 2023.
