According to the "Tsinghua University 'Gong Yuzhi Teaching Award' Selection Measures (Trial)," through departmental recommendations, expert review organized by the Academic Affairs Office, and approval by the Academic Affairs Office leadership meeting, the recognition list for the sixth Tsinghua University "Gong Yuzhi Teaching Award" in 2024 was recently announced. Professor LIU Jia from the Department of Psychology and Cognitive Sciences received this honor.
The "Gong Yuzhi Teaching Award" is selected every two years, focusing on encouraging teachers who have made outstanding contributions to undergraduate general education courses (mainly including university-wide general education courses, cultural quality courses, mathematical and science foundation courses, ideological and political theory courses, public foreign language courses, physical education courses, etc.), to deepen faculty and students' understanding of general education, stimulate teachers' enthusiasm for engaging in general education course teaching practice and research, and promote interdisciplinary integration and integration among science, humanities, arts, and engineering.
"Mysteries of the Mind" as a general education course takes interdisciplinary integration and innovative teaching methods as its core. Professor LIU Jia introduced "Phenomenon-Based Learning" in the course, breaking traditional psychology boundaries and combining brain science, artificial intelligence, anthropology, sociology, linguistics and other disciplines to explore the essence of human mind from multiple perspectives. The teaching approach is mainly based on open inquiry and reflective critical thinking, emphasizing students' direct experience and subjective feelings, and co-creating unique classroom experiences with students through dynamic adjustment of teaching strategies.
In addition, Professor LIU Jia also designed a series of teaching activities focusing on improving logical reasoning and critical thinking abilities based on "deliberate practice" theory, including open question discussions, group presentations, classroom reports and defenses. These activities aim to guide students to discover problems, solve problems, and deepen understanding of complex issues through systematic training and high-intensity interaction.
Professor LIU Jia is the Director of the Department of Psychology and Cognitive Sciences at Tsinghua University and Chair Professor of Basic Sciences at Tsinghua University, mainly researching brain-inspired intelligence and computational psychology.
